ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

 

Background

 

GN-SEC Platform

GN-SEC is an innovative multi-stakeholder South-South and triangular cooperation partnership bringing together ten regional sustainable energy centers in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America-Caribbean. Affiliated with regional economic communities (RECs), these centers provide technical assistance and policy advice to governments in order to accelerate just energy transitions. Collectively, the ten centers cover 120 member states, including 40 of the world's 45 least developed countries (LDCs) and 35 of the 39 small island developing states (SIDS). UNIDO supports the network by strengthening institutional and technical capacities, as well as facilitating South-South and triangular cooperation (SSTC) activities among the centers and regions. As part of SSTC activities, GN-SEC centers implement a Young Professionals Programme, which aims to develop a future generation of young experts working within the GN-SEC network across regions.

CEREEAC

The Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of Central Africa (CEREEAC) is the specialized institution of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) dedicated to promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable energy development in Central Africa. Based in Luanda (Angola), the Centre supports member states in the formulation and implementation of policies, strategies, and regional initiatives promoting energy transition, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and regional cooperation in sustainable energy.

Under the supervision of CEREEAC and in accordance with its rules and procedures, the GN-SEC Young Professionals Programme offers young professionals the opportunity to gain practical experience and develop their skills in the areas of sustainable energy, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

Young professionals (YPs) will be embedded in the day-to-day operations of the host centers and will contribute to programme implementation, research, communication, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge management activities.The YP's work will be particularly focused on SSTC activities of an interregional nature, involving multiple GN-SEC centers. In addition, YPs will participate in a GN-SEC common cohort programme that promotes peer learning, South-South and triangular cooperation, and engagement with the GN-SEC network as a whole.

  • The programme aims to:
  • Strengthen the operational and technical capacities of participating GN-SEC centers;
  • Provide hands-on learning opportunities for young professionals in the areas of sustainable energy and climate resilience;
  • Foster regional and interregional collaboration through a common cohort;
  • Support knowledge exchange, innovation, and South-South and triangular cooperation within the GN-SEC network;
  • Strengthen youth engagement in sustainable energy and climate action initiatives.

GENERIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The young professional will work under the direct supervision of the designated supervisor at CEREEAC and in accordance with the respective rules and regulations of the host organization.1

The YP will be engaged as follows:

A. Support to CEREEAC in joint GN-SEC activities

The young professional will contribute to the implementation of interregional activities within the work programme of the respective center, including:

  • Support project development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting activities;
  • Conduct research and analytical work on renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate resilience, sustainable energy access, and related thematic areas;
  • Contribute to stakeholder mapping, engagement, and coordination with governments, regional organizations, development partners, academia, and private sector actors;
  • Support the preparation of technical documents, concept notes, presentations, briefing papers, and knowledge products;
  • Contribute to the organization and delivery of workshops, trainings, conferences, webinars, and outreach activities;
  • Contribute to communication and visibility activities, including website content, newsletters, social media materials, success stories, and promotional products;
  • Support data collection, knowledge management, and information management activities.
  • Support the gender and youth focal points within the center.

B. Participation in GN-SEC Young Professionals cohort activities

In order to foster peer learning and collaboration across regions, the young professional will participate in the GN-SEC cohort programme, including:

  • Participate in periodic virtual cohort meetings and exchange sessions;
  • Present experiences, lessons learned, and regional perspectives;
  • Participate in orientation sessions on GN-SEC and South-South and triangular cooperation;
  • Contribute to joint cohort work and collaborative learning activities.

C. Contribution to global GN-SEC activities

The participant will support certain global GN-SEC activities in close coordination with UNIDO, including:

  • Participate in GN-SEC coordination meetings, thematic working groups, and network events;
  • Support the organization and promotion of GN-SEC webinars and knowledge-sharing activities;
  • Contribute to GN-SEC communication and visibility campaigns;
  • Support the GN-SEC knowledge management system through the collection and dissemination of good practices, case studies, and lessons learned;
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of GN-SEC digital platforms and information resources;
  • Support the Gender and Youth Focal Points Network, for example through joint communication, coordination, and knowledge-sharing activities;
  • Prepare articles, interviews, blog posts, social media content, and multimedia materials;
  • Contribute to monitoring, data collection, and analytical reporting activities.

The young professional will be required to prepare a final report summarizing the activities carried out, lessons learned, and recommendations.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS SET BY THE ORGANIZATION

 

Age: Minimum 20 years and maximum 30 years on the first day of the contract.

Education: Be enrolled in a university degree programme; or begin the internship within one year of obtaining a university degree; or have obtained a university degree.

Field of specialization: Low-carbon and climate-resilient technologies, climate change mitigation and/or adaptation, development studies and/or climate finance, economics, international relations, business administration, or other relevant technical and social sciences.

Languages: Proficiency in one or more other official languages of ECCAS (English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish) is required.An intermediate level of written and spoken English is required.

Other skills: A basic knowledge of climate change-related technologies and experience in project development are an asset.

Applications from women, underrepresented groups, and nationals of LDCs are particularly encouraged.

 

 

MODALITIES AND CONDITIONS

 

·  The young professionals programme is full-time and lasts 12 months.

· Young professionals will sign an agreement with CEREEAC and will receive a monthly allowance of EUR 330.

· Participants are responsible for travel, accommodation, visa, insurance, and associated costs.

Candidates residing outside Angola and nationals of an ECCAS member country are eligible for the programme.However, selected candidates will be required to cover all costs related to their participation, including travel, accommodation, visa, and insurance costs, as well as relocation and settling-in costs at the duty station in Luanda.

 

 

· GN-SEC centers do not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment or selection process.

· Young professionals work in accordance with the rules and procedures of the respective host regional sustainable energy center.

· UNIDO supports the programme but is not responsible or accountable for young professionals working in the centers.

 

EXPECTED RESULTS

 

At the end of the contract, each participant is expected to:

  • Contribute to the implementation of activities included in the host center's work programme;
  • Actively participate in GN-SEC cohort activities and knowledge-sharing events;
  • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of host center and GN-SEC activities; including the preparation of communication materials, visibility products, stakeholder engagement initiatives, and knowledge-sharing outputs;
  • Submit a final report presenting achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations
